Free Prayer Sunday - The Urge to Gossip

I’ve always hated the fact that I gossip with others. I know I should be above all of that. Once I figured out  why I do it, it helped me to create and say this prayer for help in resisting the urges. Like all prayers, they only help me when I ask for that help before I commit the act I am trying to avoid. I try to say it in the morning, before my day starts and before I can get myself into a situation where it might be needed. I'm not saying it works always, but at least I'm aware that I am trying to change this habit.

I'm marching through my self-published Busy Person's Prayer Book, front to back. This prayer is from the category, My Faults. Earlier, I posted prayers from the Work category (about jobs, layoffs, etc.), prayers from the Helping Others (homeless, terminally ill, etc.), and Hurting Others (judging others, etc.) categories.

I really don’t mean to gossip

I share some stories just to fit in

Distract me when I start to do this

And this battle I will win.
