Isn't it amazing how easily, as we get older, time gets away
from us? And it's not only that time gets away, and it's not only that we are
just plain slower, but it's also so much easier to become distracted from
things we plan to do.
And when I said "slower," I didn't mean either
physically or mentally, but likely both. I don't think it's necessarily a bad
thing, or something to worry about. I think it's natural. Most of us in our 70s
and 80s are no longer working outside. True, we might now be caregiving, or
nursing some of our own maladies. Those last two require us to be slower, more
methodical, more careful. So, we shouldn't blame ourselves or feel guilty. We
just need to acknowledge it and work with it and adapt to a more relaxed, more watchful
routine and life.
As far as distractions go, many of us were great at
multi-tasking while "on the job." After work schedules disappear into memory, there's no longer a rigid,
fixed, obligatory need to do 15 things at once. Of course, sometimes I now find
it tricky to just do 3 things at once - like remember something is on the stove
while I load the washer and remember to make that phone call I've been putting
off.
Life doesn't ever really get boring; it does become
different as we mature. I prefer to think we are "maturing" rather
than "aging." I'm not a lover of buzz words, but I do like that
thought.
Rolling along...
