Medical Visits Galore

We all know that I had both the lumpectomy (breast) and the basal cell cancer (back) last Fall. I am now in the midst of a gazillion follow-ups.

Last weekend, I had labs done for an upcoming visit with my PCP this coming week. I worried a bit about those. Amazingly, they were not too bad at all. But my tri’s and LDL had gone up a bit and I had been so proud of how I had tamed those two.

The hormone-blocker meds my oncologist had me on was messing with me in lots of little ways. Because of that, I was beginning to get back into old food habits simply because I was too tired to do otherwise.

I dropped those pills on the 14th, after three months. My right hand was getting so numb from minor activity that I couldn’t pick things up. Instead of 1/2 hour naps once a day, I would end up sleeping for an hour or two, twice a day. My energy level was low. My mouth was very dry almost all the time. There were too many side effects that were beginning to worry me. I see that oncologist next month. I’ll need labs for her before then.

That month, I will also be seeing the dermatologist for a follow up on the basal cell cancer, and later this summer, my, hopefully, final colonoscopy. After my Stage 3 colon cancer back in '99, they wanted one every three years. He said if it is still clear this time, that will be my last. Cool.

Besides my PCP this coming week, I go for a mammogram and ultrasound. Those results will go to the lumpectomy surgeon. If all is well, I will repeat in six months, from what I understand.

Somewhere along the way, I must see the denture dentist for a consult and to see about payment possibilities. It’s been over a year without the bottoms after they broke. I would love to get both uppers and lowers, his economy package. I don’t need the best at this time of my life but I do need something that will last me another 10 years at least.

The good thing is that none of these is invasive. And each of them is early in the day. In our summer heat here in Vegas, that is a true blessing.

Rolling along...
