She and her hubby stuffed 8 13-gallon bags and 3 boxes into
their van. They will add 2 more bags from their home (socks and, I think, blankies).
This weekend they will drop them to her friend who will get them to the priest
who hands them out personally.
It was so exciting to see it all and know it will warm some
heads, necks, and everything else on a cold person out there.
Most of the hats came from one couple about 60 miles away,
and many of the scarves came from one older neighbor who had medical issues and
finds the knitting to be soothing.
Please note: I meant to take photos of the ponchos. One of
my friends gave me a huge bag of fleece pieces earlier this year. Louise took
them and cut holes in the center, serged around the holes for stability, and
Voila! Ponchos! They really worked out well. Thanks, Sharon N, for that fleece!
Two pieces were perfect as is and are counted as blankets, and one we cut into
scarves.
We loved the poncho idea because the homeless person doesn’t
need to fold it up and lug it around, like they would with a blanket; this is
just a blanket that they can wear!
I really wish I had taken a photo of a poncho, and also of their stuffed van or the stuff while it was still on my driveway...
