The situation has grown progressively worse. Testing was
initially difficult, and still is, because he thrashes from time to time,
trying to remove the IVs and feeding tube. To alleviate this, they have kept
him mildly sedated. His wife has not been able to speak to him and have him answer
her since Thursday night.
Subsequent testing showed clots that moved to his lungs, and
also his brain, causing several little strokes. He can’t move his fingers or
arm yet. For now, they are focusing on keeping his vital signs stable and
getting rid of the last of the clots. They are grateful that, for now, he is
alive and can understand commands such as “lift your legs” or squeezing fingers
and opening his eyes. But his eyes are still unfocused and he is not aware of
where he is or what has happened to him.
The surgery for the tumor is on the back burner for now.
If I’m not mistaken, they would be celebrating their 15th
anniversary a week from today.
This is one of my favorite couples, and good neighbors and
friends. It breaks my heart. They are both in their late 60s.
Lord Jesus, please continue to look gently and lovingly upon
these people. Do whatever you can for him, heal him, soothe and comfort him,
and help his wife to get through this with the least amount of stress possible
in this situation. We trust in you.
