Every once in a while, I write about whether prayer helps the one who is praying. I even included a section in my little self-published book of prayers. Tonight I was thinking about it again because of current troubles.
I am always amazed at the level of comfort that praying offers. There is a feeling of peace after I pray. Even if I do not get the answer I hope for, I know I have at least taken a step toward a solution.
The prayer might be for a personal issue, or for someone's health or well-being, or for any of a number of things or people. It does not matter. After I have prayed, I realize I have done whatever I could at that moment. I have turned it over to the one being who really can help. That lifts an incredible burden from my shoulders, and turns my thoughts to hope.
Thank you, Lord, for letting me come to you and listening while I talk; this is a gift I do not always appreciate enough so I want to take a moment, tonight, to thank you for that comfort.
