Styrofoam for Plant Drainage

I've been very excited the past few days. I treated "me" to four different potted flowers from our local dollar store. I have some cinder blocks in my back driveway, near the rear of the mobile home. They are stacked two-high, about six across. In past years, I've plopped flower pots in the holes and had an instant garden.

I've had Petunias (until the bud words found them and we went to war and I lost), Morning Glories, and an UGO (unidentified growing object).

I decided this time to treat the flowers. I saved some smaller beverage and/or water bottles to up-end into the pots for steady watering.

I even decided to go green and recycle Styrofoam peanuts at the bottoms of the pots when I transfer these latest finds.

Then I found out that in today's world, not all Styrofoam peanuts are Styrofoam. Some are made from corn products, and dissolve in water.

Tonight I dug out the two plastic grocery bags sheltering my precious Styrofoam peanuts. I took one from each bag. I plopped one each into a wee glass of water. They each dissolved. Obviously, I have counterfeit Styrofoam here in my home! Now I have to go find the real thing.

One reason I want the Styrofoam instead of marbles or stones or gravel or clay pot shards is because it would add absolutely no noticeable weight to the pots. That would be a true blessing to this 70 year old broad.
