Helping the Gulf Oil Spill Wildlife, the Easy Way

Today I learned how both non-crafters and crafters can help the wildlife who are suffering from oil-coating from this massive oil spill. It is very easy, for both types of people (see how each can help, below).

At CraftHope, you'll learn how you can donate small hand towels and washcloths to help clean up the wildlife. These need to be small enough to handle. The web site gives specific guidelines but basically, towels should be hand towel or dish towel size, and washcloths about 10"x10".

Also, they should NOT be fancy or high-quality because they will be used only two or three times and then tossed, having been contaminated by that time.

Non-Crafters
Simply purchase a batch and send them. Or, recycle your old ones, cutting down those which are too large.

Crafters
If you knit, crochet, or sew, the web site explains the do's and don'ts (materials, size, etc.).

I am excited about this. It is a way for me to use up all the wee scraps of cotton worsted that I have, making little multicolored wash rags for the duckies!

I'd expect the towels and cloths should be flexible and not stiff or tight.

Have fun and feel good!
