Convenient Containers

Recycling some very unlikely containers can be a great boost to crafters.

I went through a phase when I made a lot of clothespin angels. Shipping them was tricky. I wanted them to display nicely when opened, so a zippered plastic baggie just didn't do it for me. Then I remembered a lot of those Glad or Reynolds plastic refrigerator containers, 4 cup size, I think, that were lying around. Some had a tiny split in the corner of the lid, not good for keeping food fresh in the fridge. I found that if I placed enough batting in the bottom of the container and then the angel on top, with enough batting she/he would stay still during shipping. It actually looked like the angel was on a cloud. It was a perfect pairing.

Before the economy went sour, our household did its share of take-out and delivery meals. Many times, I washed and saved those little sauce cups. I ended up with three different sizes. They are perfect for shipping earrings and other small items.

Margerine or butter tubs are great because most of them do not have any text on them. Old eyeglass cases are another option - items can be slipped inside the softer open-at-top type, or placed inside the harder snap-open kind.

A slightly different container, even though recycled, can set off some of your handcrafts. Look around - you might be surprised at what you find.
