Time Wasting
I am careful to limit the hours I spend skimming these pages, because I can easily see how someone could spend entire days at their computers. I have a few blogs (okay, maybe a few more than a few) that I automatically follow. I am smart, I think, in that I only read those at night before I go to bed, so they do not interrupt my day. However, I am a compulsive email-reader. Or, at least, an email-subject-line reader. I delete a lot, thank heaven, without even opening them, based on that subject line. That still leaves a lot each day. Many days, I open them and mark them to “keep as new” so I will not forget to answer them. You do NOT want to know how many emails of that type are still in my inbox. Anyhow, just emails and blogs and research alone take up a lot of time.
Time Saving
When I need a craft pattern, or hard-to-find supplies (both craft and for home needs), or a tip on anything at all, I scoot into the back bedroom to my computer. When I was growing up, I often called the Research Desk at the local public library. They were geniuses at finding answers in the midst of millions of pages of paperwork, but it did take a little time. Today, I am spoiled silly by all that I can find, when I need it, and almost as fast as I need it. This is an incredible time-saver and problem-solver.
Bottom line - I need to be sure that the time-wasting area of my computer time is always far less than the time saving part. Hmmm. And in all of this I did not even mention the recreational game or two a day, when I am lucky to find the time.
