Hot Weather Favorites - Beverage Cozies

I am so happy that I began making these a while back. In our desert heat, ice melts as soon as you look at it in the glass, cans of soda or whatever almost boil as soon as popped no matter how long chilled, and plastic bottles of anything liquid almost liquify in your hands.

I fell in love with beverage cozies because they slow down all these disasters and do a fair job of keeping liquids cooler longer. However, I played with so many crochet patterns I was almost dizzy and I still hadn’t found a pattern I liked. I did discover that they really must be made in cotton worsted, for strength and for absorbancy.

Finally, in a Yahoo swap group, a partner sent me her variation of the cozy you see here. She kindly sent me the pattern. Hers had lovely beads at the top to keep your hands from sliding past a particular point on the glass/can/bottle. I tried the beaded version but quickly realized I might be able to do it faster, for me, with popcorn stitches around the top edge. When I asked her about whether I could use her pattern to make and sell these, she said she felt that I had adapted it enough that it was now my pattern that I was using. Thank you, Patti - I will not forget your generosity and kindness.

They are great in sets - all in one color, or one of each solid color or shaded color (so everyone at your BBQ can tell which drink is which).

Yep, I am happy making these during the HHH (hazy, hot, and humid) days of summer.
