Crafts as a Way of Helping

I just found out that a dear cyber friend needs to keep her home colder than most of us because she cannot afford the heating bill. She has an electric blanket, but it dawned on me that I might be able to help her in another way.

I make these super warm adult booties, slippers that are cushioned and thick and soft. I make them rather quickly, too. I will make a pair right away to send to her, and maybe some fingerless gloves. Those she can use for chores in the house. I know how cold a home can feel without the right amount of heat. Years ago, in NJ, our landlady’s oil heater went out in a basement apartment we were in. Walking around, trying to “live” in that place for a few weeks before she decided to have it fixed, we could have suffered some tragic end. Warmth is important.

As crafters, we can help others in so many ways. We all have many, many leftover balls of yarn. Some items do not have to be color-coordinated - they just have to be warm or useful. This is a very wonderful way to use up that yarn and thread.

Thank you, Dear Lord, that I can help in this way; keep my eyes open that I may continue to see how I might use my skills to help those you need me to help.
