Varying Patterns by Changing Colors

I am much braver in my senior years than I was in my younger years, regarding patterns. In my early days, I rigidly followed the directions, stitch by stitch, precise color, thread or yarn, and hook recommended by the pattern.

These days, I have fun with the pattern. Lately, I’ve been in love with an angel bookmark. Two days ago, I wanted to figure a way to make the angel at the top stand out more prominently. It dawned on me that I didn’t have to make the entire bookmark one color throughout.

I experimented and settled on the angel at the top in white thread, and the robe (or skirt, or ribbon, whatever) at the bottom, in colors. It made a magnificent difference. The angel is very noticeable, and the bottom now adds more to the overall effect.

No crocheter should be afraid to experiment with color. What you are working on can always be ripped out and started over.

Father, thank you for the adventurous spirit you have given me.
