Shelly posted a comment to my most recent Power of Prayer post. She mentioned that making a schedule has helped her. I know that will not work for me. My chunks of time are too unpredictable.
Anyone who has been involved in 24/7 caregiving for a friend or loved one understands how we can plan to do something and immediately be pulled away by caregiving needs, only to find out that an hour has passed and the time slot is gone. A mother of young children would probably understand, too.
However, one thing used to work for me in the past. And I think I need to get back to it quickly. A plain-and-simple to-do list. I love these for my way of life. I put everything on there, trivial as well as traumatic, small jobs and large. The reason I put them all down is that many times, it cheers me and recharges me just to be able to cross off some of the smaller items one after another. Having the list before me also ensures that I will not just focus on the easy stuff and forget the biggies.
When I worked onsite, I loved my Franklin Planner. I do not need anything that elaborate these days. Even a long shopping list pad, the kind with or without a magnet on the back, will work well enough. Yes, I must start that right away, and get back into the habit.
I found in the past that doing this means that by the time I transfer the unfinished things from yesterday’s list to today’s list guarantees that in a day or two, things get done. That’s because I get tired of transferring the same item day after day and I must face it and get it over with.
Dear God, thank you for reminding me of one way to be sure I use the most important resource of all, time, much more wisely than I am doing now.
