I love being in online swaps and exchanges. When I send to others, it forces me to learn new patterns and try new things. When I receive from them in exchange, I also discover new things.
I also love making things for gifts. Ever since I began joining the swaps and exchanges, I have been happy to be able to send my friends and loved ones a bigger variety of handmade treasures and fun items.
Still, all of this activity means I do not make much for myself. I love some of the things I am making. I finally made myself a promise. Every time I make something to give away, I make a duplicate for myself or our household. Not a whole afghan, of course, but perhaps the squares for one down the line, as well as anything else that isn’t too large or too complicated.
It is a great treat for me. I am beginning to accumulate some nice items that bring
me a little fun and joy. I now have angel bookmarks, a growing pile of 12” squares for one or more afghans or lapghans down the line, potholders galore, coasters by the bucketful, and more.
Thank you, Lord, for guiding me in this respect and showing me that I do not have to do without in order to do for others.
