Fatigue

There are many times these days, because of the 24/7 care-giving for Jane, because of other obligations, and because I’m just plain wearing out after 69 years of lively living, that I feel dog-tired at the end of the night. Sometimes I feel like that during the day. At those times, I want it to go away. I honestly don’t think at times that I have the strength to go on.

Prayers help, when I think of them. My favorite is a Bible verse that I have made my favorite prayer for those times, Isaiah 40:31. Depending on which version you use, of the many Bible versions existing today, it is: For they that wait upon the Lord shall rise up on wings like eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and not grow weak. I know those are not the exact words, but they are close enough for me to remember when I need them. I like thinking that I can rise up like an eagle, soaring through the rest of my day. I love thinking that no matter how much I run around, he will help me and I will not be weary.

Prayers do not have to be rigid, formal words. They are conversations with God. They can be loose and casual, the way God and Moses talked with each other. They can be passages remembered from the Bible. Whatever prayers we choose, they have the ability to help us get through our heaviest of days, survive the most severe stress, and carry us when we feel we are so tired we are about to fall.

Thank you, Dear God, for all the words in your universe, words you have blessed us with, that we may come to you in our hours of need and our hours of weariness.
