Upcoming Election

I’m becoming more and more worried as the 2008 Presidential Election approaches. I hope with all my heart that all people of faith are praying for guidance on this one. It would be so easy to go with our “feelings,” but from what I can see, even my most rational friends are very emotional over this election.

Because emotions are running high, even my own, it is not wise to trust the vote to anyone but the Lord. If he lets me know, somehow, that the person I favor is not the one he knows is right, then I need to be flexible and obedient enough to follow his will, not mine.

My problem with following God’s advice is that I cannot always hear him when he talks to me. On this election issue, I will have to be sure that, several times along the way, I tune out the world for a few minutes here and there, and really listen. That doesn’t mean listening to the polls, or listening to the candidates, or listening to my friends. It means listening to God.

Father, we all need your help so desperately in this election; please guide us and please ensure that we hear your guidance clearly, each of us in our own way and in our own hearts.
