My Mother’s Knit and Crochet Patterns

My mother used to write out her patterns in longhand on a spiral steno pad. If she wanted something knitted or crocheted and couldn’t find a pattern, she made one. I realized this evening that I could honor her (she passed away in ’94 at 76) by printing some of her patterns on the internet. She would have loved sharing them with others. Given her financial circumstances toward the end, as a widow, she would have loved earning some income from them, too. But the sharing would have been her biggest joy.

I can test her crochet patterns, but I’ll need to find a few friends in my Yahoo group (see link on this page) who knit, to test her knitting patterns. For example, my stepdad was on crutches for years and years. Eventually, she decided to knit him some crutch-covers for the padded tops that go under the arms. She made him covers to match all his favorite shirts. She also made a crochet granny square recliner cover, a pattern for what she called a “Cossack Hat” for him, and more.

Yes, it’s time for me to do something with them, before I, too, pass away, and something good is lost forever.

Help me, Dear Lord, to stay focused on this project until I finish posting all of my mother’s patterns.
