Giving God Orders

When I wrote yesterday’s post, it was mostly about prayers for the right choice in the upcoming election. I realized tonight that something I said, in that post, relates not just to elections, but to every prayer I say. I have slowly been learning to pray for the ability to “see” God’s plan in different aspects of my life. But I still slip, many times, and ask God for specifics. Who am I to know whether a specific request is right for me, or for others in my path? And who am I to ask God to fix the outcome of any event or circumstance or problem in my life?

I must try more often to pray for a “happy outcome” as it relates to God’s plan for me and those God needs me to help. That way, I leave myself open to all possibilities, all of the many ways in which he answers prayer. This is a short post, but it is a powerful one in my prayer life. I’ve realized something very important, and I need to start applying this insight more often in my prayer life.

Help me, Lord, to remember that it is your plan I should be following, and not my wishes that I should be begging you to fulfill.
