There have been many, many times in my life when I needed to begin something new. Sometimes it was a new job, or a new position or new department in that job. Sometimes it was a new apartment or new home. Sometimes a new venture I hoped would bring me some income. Sometimes it was a new pattern or new project for fun, or new plants to set in the ground. At these times, I often worried about whether I could do it all and do it right.
Now that I look back, those were the times I needed to pray before-hand, for guidance. Too often, I just plunge into things. Not impulsively. But plunging ahead without a thought of a prayer for God’s help. Life is hard enough without my forgetting to ask for help along the way. Why do I make it harder than it is? All I need to do is ask.
I really need to ask ahead of time. So often, I ask when I’m in the middle of a mess, or I’ve gone quite a way into the new event or project, and then realize I really need some help. I usually end up asking for help when I’m almost in over my head. It’s time for me make a habit of asking for help before that happens.
Father, please help me to remember to ask for your assistance and guidance in the beginning, so that I can avoid asking for your help to bail me out of a mess.
