Eating the Right Food

I have no vices left except for food. Because of my colon cancer terror (Stage 3) in ’99, I do try these days to get a variety of fruits, veggies, grains, fish, and other good stuff into my body. Still, I admit to a craving and lust for chocolate and other candies. And, cookies, snack cakes, pretzels, chips, and of course, ice cream. I try to eat these bad things in moderation. Mostly, I succeed during the day.

Lately, I’ve been giving in just before bed. This is the worst time to snack on the candies, especially. Tootsie Roll Midgies and mini-KitKat bars are not good bedtime snacks. Those are the safest ones. I don’t want to mention the really bad ones like mini-Mounds bars, but I’ll be honest and include them.

I am proud of the fact that I eat whole grain cereal and fruit or juice for breakfast, popcorn or fruit for daytime snacks. But I am having a tough time before bed. What I must do is figure out the best thing to eat, something light and safe, and then make it ready-to-eat. I think that’s why I grab the candies - they are ready-to-eat. No preparation. No peeling, cutting, whatever.

Dear Lord, please guide my appetite, especially at nightl help me choose from all the wonderful choices you provide us with each day.
