Yarn Quality

Lately, one of my favorite yarn brands is beginning to disappoint me. My mother always bought this brand. I picked that up from her. For years, her work always turned out perfectly, and the quality was excellent.

I shouldn’t say this is a new trend for this yarn brand. I began noticing a difference about 5 years ago. I’d get into a skein and find knots in one or more places. Once, I sent back the yarn, and they sent me a dozen to replace it. This is not what I want to happen, though. I want them to care, like they used to. A knot in the middle, or several, can ruin a project. Something that must be perfectly smooth cannot tolerate a knot. When this happens, I must either go back a row or round, cut, and re-join. It’s a nuisance.

Another thing that is happening with their brand is that, even with a new skein, I’m noticing “pilling.” That never used to happen.

So, do I change brands? Maybe. I’ll definitely think about it.

I do know that I’ll do all of us a favor if, instead of complaining here, I write them a note, explaining what I just wrote. I’ll hope it causes their quality control people to look into things. Complaining to the “air” or to each other does not fix the problem. Careful documentation and explanation can help, many times. I hope it does in this case - I really love this brand.
