Praying for the Right Words

I often find myself praying for the right words. I even wrote a prayer for that need and it’s in my Busy Person’s Prayer Book. I’ll post it here to show how I use it for many types of problems.

Holy Spirit, my special muse
Please send me words that I can use

With others as we make our way.

I love this prayer because I can say it for so many reasons. I use it when I need to write something - condolences, an article, even these blog posts. I use it when I need to say the right words - a speech, a phone call that’s important to me or to the one I’m calling, a troubling confrontation.

I’d rather pray for the help I need before I blurt out, or scribble down, words that might cause more harm than good. The trick is to say them before I do that, not afterwards.

Dear Father, help me to follow my own advice and pray for guidance in the words I use.
