Prayers are first and above all, a one-on-one talk with God. My favorite prayers are the ones I say before I fall asleep at night. A few months, or maybe even a year or two ago, it’s so routine now that I cannot remember when it started, I adopted the habit of thanking God for what happened for the good that day. At first, it was just a thank you for this and that (my washer and dryer inside the mobile home, that I don’t have to walk three buildings away to use; a bed instead of a cot or mattress or blanket on the floor/been there, done that; food that was edible, etc.) but now it has blossomed into much more.
Take last night, for example.
...Thank you, God, for being to understand how to set up a Blog and share my thoughts on prayer
...for my sister’s frame mind (she’s in long-term care at only 68 yrs of age, Parkinsons, Diabetes, COPD, Bipolar, more) and that she was giggling when we hung up at 9:45 p.m.
...for giving me the strength and fortitude to do all that I managed to do today
...for forgiving me for complaining because of what I had to do
...for forgiving me for putting off some things I should have done
...for a bed to sleep in, and a quiet community (this after years of living in apt complexes with wall-to-wall children. I love children but I do not love disrespectful, unruly children) and noisy, nasty, or druggie neighbors
...for a chance to try again tomorrow
...and these are just some of the thoughts I had as I fell to sleep in a pleasant frame of mind. It’s a wonderful and wonder-filled way to go to sleep, for me. More than anything else, Thank You, God, for being there to listen.
