Going Back into High Gear for Medical Visits

Starting Monday, I’ll be in high gear once again with medical visits. The Fall of 2017 kicked me into “fix up this old body” mode when two different cancers were discovered.

Today, the basal cell cancer on my right shoulder was finally cleared and that is over with.

Next week, I start off with my first visit, a consult, with my oncologist. Considering what I’ve learned of this lumpectomy process, I could be facing five years of estrogen-blocker pills and 15 radiation visits. No point in second-guessing this one. I have plenty to keep my mind off of it until then - that’s a good thing.

In addition to that one, I have a three-month follow-up with the original dermatologist and with the lumpectomy surgeon for another follow-up.

The food pantry visits begin again but this time, I am allowed to lift more than I could last month after the lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy. It felt so good early in the week to be able to once again fill my 2 three-gallon jugs with water and be able to bring them into the house. For a while, I was into just buying one-gallon jugs off the shelf. I was also able to bring in the 21-lb sack of litter. It really felt good to be doing some of those things again.

Along the way, I recently finished two more homeless scarves. I made my carrot/raisin/avocado salad and my canned-salmon/avocado salad, and a few more things.

I do need to be a bit more active and I do need to really watch what I'm eating. Those weeks when I was not allowed to lift, after the first surgery and forward, it was also the Christmas season and treat-season. I usually weigh myself once a month, the first week of each month. I've packed on 5 pounds - that does not make me a happy camper. But I'll work that out...

Not a bad time ...
