Getting a Slow Start to the New Year

Here we are into the New Year by 3 days and I don’t have a lot to show for it or for a fresh start. Still, I haven’t been completely idle.

New Year’s Day, I just took it easy. I did take down the few Christmas porch decorations I had put up - a wreath and some glitter garland. I also managed to dice 6 apples and nuked them. I packed them into 2 containers (4 cups each) and they’re in the fridge for the week’s cereal. Oh, and I even sent off a piece to Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Tuesday, I did manage to boil a bag of baby carrots, mash them coarsely, added raisins, and nuked that. It’s in the fridge and I hope to add the avocado tomorrow for a few days’ worth of carrot/raisin salad. I really love picking on that. I went out to mail 3 sympathy cards and to put gas in the car. I also finished a homeless scarf and began to finish another. Had a few started and forgot about them. Also noticed that leak under the car is getting bigger. I’ll take it to my guy this coming Saturday morning, no later.

Today, I spent two hours going through a few stacks of papers and my “bill box.” Filled 1-1/2 plastic grocery bags for trash. I actually put away a small stack for further sorting later into folders, but at least the pile of medical papers (where DO they come from?) is all in one place. I’m juggling so many follow-ups and upcoming treatments that I really needed to get those under control. Finished another scarf. I did pay my home insurance over the phone. And I worked a bit on some Chicken Soup for the Soul pieces.

I also played phone-call-tag with appointment-setters. It started with a call to the oncologist for a first visit, followed by a lengthy wait for the call back. That led to them emailing my info to a closer location. That’s a good thing for when I need to drive back and forth for the radiation. I am now waiting, once more, for a call back.

Yep - this is a slow start but not a bad one.
