Today,
however, it warmed my heart when a friend made a simple offer. For her, it
seemed to be nothing. For me, it was something that will brighten upcoming
days.
You all
know I have cut and cut and cut my expenses, trying to deal with financial
upsets. One cut this week was to let go of contract TV. The time was right -
the contract finally ended and I could do it without incurring
broken-contract-fees. It did mean, though, that for a while, the indoor antenna
I am using with an analog-to-digital box will not bring in ABC, CBS and NBC. It
does bring me local news and weather on Fox, for which I am grateful. I am
comfortable with the whole situation, and grateful for the cut in that upcoming
monthly bill.
She had the
sense to see that I mentioned that both old sets had built-in VCRs. She asked
me which of my fave regular shows I would miss most. Then she offered to have
her DH and herself tape them for me each week and drop off the tapes every so
often.
The shows I
mentioned to her are Blue Bloods, the 3 NCIS shows, CSI, Scorpion, Madam
Secretary and Unforgettable. Even if I only get to see one of those off and on,
until I can get a better antenna, which could be months down the line, it will
be a real treat.
What amazes
me is that it isn’t costing her to do this, dollar-wise. She has spare tapes
galore. She comes near my neighborhood once or twice a week, so she’s not going
out of her way, fuel-wise. But she is giving me her time and her love.
This woman
has a life of her own - she’s older, too, like me. She is extremely busy. She’s
involved in many things, including the lives of those in the multi-generational
family close by. And, she is dealing with recovery and therapy of many recent
surgeries.
Isn’t it
wonderful how some care so much and give so much when you’d think they’d have
too many things of their own to care about?
This gesture on her part means more to me than all the money on this earth.
