I figured out how to disconnect the contract service and
install the converter box. I had a little indoor antenna that I’ m using for
now. I can’t get ABC, NBC or CBS for now - I need a stronger antenna for that.
Plus, this is only for the living room TV. I have one in my
bedroom. Both of these TVs have built-in VCRs. So, for a while, until I get a
second box, I’ll play tapes at night when I go to bed.
I was blessed by friends when they left town (oh, my, how
many years ago, my friends?). They gave me oodles and oodles of tapes. Most of
them are nature documentaries and re-runs of shows I have always loved.
So, right now, I am writing this while I am half-watching,
fully-listening to Lassie, Flipper and documentaries on Rhinos and more. Most
of the 8 hr tapes are packed.
The back-and-forth killed most of my day. I tried Walmart
for the converter box first. They were sold out. I came home and tried to hook
up one that a neighbor gave me but I couldn’t get it to work. After a while, I
realized that both K-Mart and Target would probably sell them, too, so off I
went. Then it was disconnect, connect, and get friendly with the new setup
time. Scanning for available channels, you know the drill.
I do feel a sense of relief, in a way. I know I will miss
Hallmark and TNT channels, for sure. But I can deal with it. Plus these sets
will also allow me to record what is playing in one room while I watch
something else on another. Not a bad deal.
