My Outside Plants Died in our Extreme Heat

Well, the visiting planter on my front porch died yesterday. The catnip and the purple flowing vine just couldn't take the 120 that it hit out there. The official temp was not that high, but in our neighborhood, it was brutal.

I should have brought it inside for a few days but frankly, we were just trying to pretend we didn't mind the heat and we couldn't focus on anything else.

The cucumbers out back on my driveway look faded and on their way to cucumber-heaven, too.

Such is life in the southwest desert climate.

It doesn't get this hot, for this long, very often. Hopefully, I'll remember in another 20 years when it happens again. Let's see - I'll be 93 then. That should be interesting.

Aha! NOW I know who you are, you anonymous sweetheart, you (LOL). Seriously, Smith's is open 24 hrs, near me, and both my closest Walmart Neighborhood Grocery and Food 4 Less both open at 6am, so if I need anything, I run out at 5:30 am and am careful to be home before 8 am...
We're okay for now...thanks for asking and for caring...back at ya!

The heat here got bad about a week ago, but not 120 degrees bad. I think the highest we hit was 105. We thought the plants around our mailbox were gone for sure, but we've been watering them a lot and are starting to see some green again, even on the plant I told Mom was definitely not coming back! God does some amazing things!

You are so right - he does do amazing things. Maybe I ought to begin watering, anyhow, for a week or so. What might be dead to me might simply be dormant to him. Maybe I have a Lazarus plant...wouldn't that be amazing?

I'd definitely start watering and praying for it too! It certainly couldn't hurt.

By the way, Mom was worried about you when she saw on the news how hot it was getting in Vegas. The first thing she said while reading the weather report last week was, "I hope Evelyn is okay!" So, we are both very glad to hear you've survived the heat wave. We may not be very good at keeping in touch, but we think about you often and care about you always! (((HUGS)))

I feel the same way, my friends. There are a few of you, my cyber-friends and even real-life friends, who I might not be in touch with frequently, but who are always on my prayer list and who I think about often. Stay well, and get in touch if you ever need extra prayers...

Actually, extra prayers would be very much appreciated. I caught a cold and thought I was starting to get better, but now I have a really nasty cough. Some of my friends from the east coast are in town right now, but I can't get together with them as long as I'm sick. :(

Praying, as you asked, that you can get rid of your summer cold quickly. When I was a kid, they always used to say that if you take meds, you can get rid of a cold in two weeks; if you let it alone, it goes away by itself in 14 days...the old-timers had it nailed. Not much we can do about the common cold except treat the symptons (sigh).
