Prayer for New Pet Situation?

A week ago today, at Noon, we brought home a 1-1/2 year old female kitty we adopted from the SPCA. We spent a hard-to-let-go-of $40, but for that, she was already spayed, micro-chipped, and had all her shots. We also had a deal to visit one of a list of approved Veterinarians for a free checkup if done in the first 10 days.

Getting her into the crate 2 days later, for the trip to the Vet, was hilarious. It was a no-deal effort. She is a bit plump, a beautiful calico (or a tortoise with white feet and a white bib). She is 13.5 pounds and we believe our 50-foot double wide mobile home will allow for a lot of back-and-forth which will work that weight off.

Anyhow, I tried the carrier thing first; my nephew tried immediately after; and then I tried again. By that time, she disappeared and there was no way of dealing with it the rest of the day. I had to laugh because he said she was a very strong little girl and trying to wrestle her into the carrier was like dealing with a Sumo wrestler - not a very attractive way to describe our new little girl.

We did get her into the carrier the next day. I just up-ended it with the door open at the top, picked her up, and plopped her down inside, hind-end first. Worked just fine and with minimal stress for her.

The Vet gave her a thumb's up for the checkup, and gave us tips on weight-loss efforts.

However, my biggest concern is that she is supposed to be primarily a companion for my nephew. She bonded with me immediately because I dealt with her food and litter, and coaxed her out of her hidey-holes in this archaeological dig I call a home. It is a week, and she still runs away when he approaches her.

If any of you has a spare moment, perhaps you could squeeze in a little prayer for us on this issue? I know he is heartbroken to think she is afraid of him.

We've both discussed the probability that it stems from whatever home conditions she endured her first 1-1/2 years, wherever that was. She was only in the SPCA for a month.

Father, thank you for trusting us to watch over and care for this little one. We love her and pray that she will very quickly come to trust and love both of us equally.
