Yard Sale Lessons I've Learned

This weekend, I'm having a yard sale on my driveway, under the carport, at our senior mobile home park. It's part of our Spring park-wide yard sale.

I had to become a bit creative in engineering display space. I only have 2 long tables and 2 card tables. In the past, I noticed that a lot of folks do NOT like to bend down to the ground to go through boxes of stuff.

One year, I took some cinder blocks and placed a long ladder across them and placed cartons of stuff on the ladder. This year, the cinder blocks are otherwise occupied. A year or two back, I had stacked them two-high and stuffed plant pots inside the holes for a sort of flower garden.

My nephew finally came up with our solution. I have three tray tables that are fairly sturdy, so we'll place the ladder across those. Actually, that will make them a nice height for shoppers to sort through stuff. What I do have to be careful of is to put lighter-weight items on that base.

Our park always announces that shoppers driving through our park "look for the balloons." If we are selling, we place at least 3 balloons close to the street so folks can see them. I cannot get out to get the helium ones, and just tying them to a chair and putting the chair at the end of the driveway is clumsy at best. BUT I do have a ramp on the porch side so I think I will tie a bunch (at least 6) to the railings at the beginning of the ramp. That will be sturdy for sure, and it is exactly at the gutter so they should be very visible.

I hate pricing things with little stickers. Drives me nutz. This year, my nephew suggested we sell NOTHING for less than a quarter ($.25) each. Other years, we've had a variety of nickel and dime items. But we end up with so many of those that we hardly have space for higher-priced items.

So, now all we need is buyers! If you see them out on the street, please shoo them our way!
