Celebrating 3 Years With Our Charity Crafting Group

Our Friday morning charity crafting group celebrated 3 years of its existence this month. This past Friday, we each brought some food and thoroughly pigged out. But even better than that, we each thoroughly enjoyed each other's company and the knowledge that we had been doing something worthwhile for at least 2 hours each week.

There are 8 of us now. We focus mostly on just a handful of destinations for our projects. There are many, many groups out there who give to large distributors. We choose to give to the places that others seem to have overlooked. That pleases us no end.

Basically, we focus on the homeless (hats, scarves and gloves), a long-term care center we "adopted" (shawls and lap throws), preemies and newborns (a preemie ward in a local hospital).

None of us ever imagined we would accomplish so much or enjoy it so intensely. It is the highlight of our week.

We stay away from touchy conversational topics, and we try to limit the urge to gossip. We are a very diverse group but we are bonded by our love and urge to help others with our skills.

We have found, however, that it is amazingly addicting. We usually try to figure on that 2 hours every Friday. But every one of us finds that, during the week, we cannot help picking up our hooks (or needles) and working on projects outside that 2 hours.
