I recently entered a giveaway that offered a dozen "fat quarters" of really lovely complementary prints. I do not sew but one of our senior Friday morning charity crafters does. I hoped to win the packet and figured she could make a few really cute baby and toddler quilts and/or throws for the needy new mothers on our list.
As of this morning, I still had no idea what a "fat quarter" meant. I finally did a search and found this great site, About.com
One of the pages on their site gives the best answer I have ever seen to the question, "What is a fat quarter?" They even include a truly understandable diagram as an example. Based on the answer, I see that I could easily use fat quarters for simple projects that even I could do - pillow tops, for instance. Tote bags, for another.
Most important, my curiosity was satisfied, and for any of you with the same question, I hope your curiosity is satisfied, too.
