Special Olympics Scarves Needed, plus Red Heart Giveaway

I signed up a long while ago for regular emails from Red Heart. This week, I received notice of a great giveaway they are having until the end of April. They are giving a prize a day away, plus you are automatically entered in the Grand Prize drawing, which includes 75 skeins of yarn - how great would that be? Click here to go to their home page and click on the giveaway for the page to enter. You do not have to sign up for their email newsletter, and you do not have to register to join their site. Just fill in the form. AND, you can go back every single day and do it again. The winners will be announced, off and on, on their blog, which you can click on from the giveaway entry page.

The other thing, the strong need for scarves for the Special Olympics, was something I noticed in passing. Then a friend of mine, Micki, mentioned to me that she noticed that my state, Nevada, had no scarf donations at all yet. I went to the Special Olympics' scarves page (click here), and then to the list of states. She's right. Micki usually has some great stuff in her Etsy store (click here), but she has it on Vacation status for a short while during a recent move. Just check out her "sold" items to see what she usually has.

Back to the Special Olympics'' scarves - I cannot do much about that right now. Our very small (five), but very productive, group of local crafters is very busy trying to make scarves, hats, and fingerless gloves for our local homeless. In Las Vegas, you wouldn't think it could get very cold, but we have had a few weeks this winter when we were below freezing. Here in the desert (yep, we are still considered "desert"), that night chill and freezing temperature goes through to the bones. It is worse when your bed is the cement sidewalk and you are lying on it for hours on end.

So, I mention this in case some of you might be interested in your own states. It is a worthy cause and a great way to help.
