The Patchwork Quilt of Life

There was a time when I wrote a lot of one-liners. I submitted and sold them to many publications. One of my favorites was this one: “In the patchwork quilt of life, love is the brightest patch.” I always thought it would make a nice sampler.

That saying has many truisms in it. Life truly is like a patchwork quilt. Bits and pieces of our lives, some of our own and some from others, are combined into one wonderful work of beauty and love.

In that mish-mash of pieces and patches, the brightest one truly is love. Love is what makes us manage to go forth with our lives each day, no matter how difficult the path may be. That love may take many forms. It might be familial love, the love we have for our family members. It might be sexual or spousal love. It certainly includes spiritual love of all kinds. Spiritual love of human souls we know, of humankind in general, and of God and all he represents.

That piece of our lives, love, is truly the brightest patch in our lives.

Thank you, sweet Lord, for our ability to love.
