As a crafter, I’ve always loved working with my hands. I’ve always been a pattern junkie, too. In the 40s when I began, as a child, to crochet and embroider, I watched The Workbasket come into the mailbox on the front porch. I couldn’t wait until Mom put it down to take care of something or other and I could pick it up and browse through it, looking at the photos of the projects. Even before I could “read” a pattern, I would daydream about making some of those items.
These days, patterns are only a fingertip away, a click of a button. They tumble out in lists before my eyes, daring me to click on each and every one of them. I have to be careful or else I spend more time pattern-browsing than I do crocheting. I do a search for “angel” and “free crochet pattern,” and I am overwhelmed with the results.
I’m reminiscing and I’m rambling, trying not to mention that I still have not packed that WIP bag. Still, it’s only been a few days since I decided to do that. Maybe tomorrow I will surprise myself.
Back to the Internet and patterns. It is glorious. It is amazing. And it is wonder-filled. I’m like a kid in a candy store, cliché or not.
Dear God, thank you for our modern technology and for enabling me to know how to use it; help me to use it wisely and not abuse the wealth.
