Praying at Work - Good or Bad?

I believe we should never be ashamed to pray. Even in public.

One place that doesn’t seem to work for prayer, especially for prayer groups, is on the job. I’ve seen many folks try to establish them at work. Too often, those involved meet in an area that intrudes on the work time of others, or they are in a location where they are too easily overheard by those who are not on break and are working. Sometimes, they run over the break-time or lunch-time and therefore, intrude on an employer’s time.

None of us has a right to infringe on the rights of others, no matter how good our intentions might be. Workplace prayer groups are wondrous in themselves. They are a chance to find peace amidst the stress of the daily job. They give us a feeling of being guided by God on the earthly plane. But we must be careful that we are not being self-righteous or pompous and pushing our group too far into the actual workplace.

Even Jesus has said it: Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God, the things that are God’s (Matthew 22:21).

Please, Dear Lord, whether it’s at work or any other public place, send me the wisdom to know where to draw the line.
