It is so easy to pray for help in times of need. We panic, we are in fear, we need help. We pray. It’s that simple. But I’ve noticed that all too often I forget to thank God for the times he answers those prayers.
When something good happens, or something works out unexpectedly well, I’m happy, I’m elated. But do I physically thank God for that favor? Not as often as I should. I’ve been trying to correct that. At the very moment I realize I’ve received an answer to any prayer, no matter how trivial, I try to immediately thank God. If I don’t do it right at that moment, I am certain to forget or get too busy to care.
There are two tricks I have adopted to help me cover my bases. First, I make my thanks short and sweet and very simple. I use the least possible number of words: Thank you, God. Second, I try to say a general Thank You when I get up each day, in advance, for all the blessings and answered prayers I am sure to receive that day.
And now, Thank you, Dear Lord, for the words you have sent to me each day for this blog.
