Why do I Believe in Prayer?

I’m not sure how to explain why I believe in the power of prayer. I definitely know it works, though. It’s often been said that God always answers prayers, but not always in the way we wish. Sometimes, it’s said, he says “No.”
If you do not feel completely confident in the power of prayer, maybe it will help for you to realize it is a very old example of positive thinking. Asking God for an answer, over and over, and often and oftener, keeps the wish in the foreground of our thoughts. Eventually, it’s natural that we should begin to see answers, solutions, alternatives.
If the answer is “No,” then we can shed the burden of a useless wish and move on to what God really wants us to be doing, instead of wasting our time, effort, and energy on something that is not quite right for us, at least not right now.
It doesn’t mean we are wrong or bad for wanting something that isn’t right for us. But it sure makes it easier to make the right moves once we have thrown out the wrong hopes. The reason I believe in prayer, I suppose, is because I have looked back many times and seen the way it was answered - not in the way I wanted, perhaps, but in the way that was best for me.

Thank you so much for the kind words. You have no idea how writing these helps me, too. More than anything, it feels good to help folks feel they are not the only ones who have similar thoughts or problems. Hugs and prayers. Evie
