We’ve acknowledged that prayer is a one-on-one talk with God. The problem is that in our fast-paced world, it’s often hard to remember to pray in time to gain some benefit from it. Life gets in the way, something happens, and we plunge into what we think is the best course of action. It’s so hard to remember to pray at the moment of trouble or when it is beginning.
Often, I’m in the middle of a crisis or a problem, and because people often depend on me, I am used to making quick decisions. This has its drawbacks. I act before I pray. It was troubling to end the day with an apology to God for not coming to Him for help when I made a hasty decision. I had to find a way to ask, in advance, for God’s help.
I now try to start my day as I’m getting out of bed with a special little prayer. I ask God to guide me that entire day especially when I’m too busy to talk to Him. I try to cover my bases ahead of time. I’ve been blessed with the ability to create quick and easy fast-paced prayers, and this one has quickly become one of my mainstays.
For Today’s Troubles, in Advance
Dear God, this day may have its troubles
And some will come as a great surprise
If I am too burdened to come to you
I trust you to help if the need should arise.
