Front Lot, My Bro's Radiation, Food Prep, and More

Ok, so it's 10:30 am, and at least I can say I've done something so far today.

This morning, early, I went over to where, on Wednesday, I had set the white plastic Blessed Mother garden statue a friend gave me a month ago. This time, I re-set it, placed a rounded wire "fence" piece behind it to help it show up better against the white skirting, and set some stones around the bottom to hopefully keep it from blowing away in the high winds. Photos here. I have wanted this for the whole 18 years I've lived here. So happy... might tweak the setup here and there, to secure it mostly from winds.

Came in and took a phone call from my brother who has now completed 2 of the 8 weeks of weekday radiation for his prostate cancer. He's tolerating it well and is happy that now one other pre-radiation routine is over - he had his final "hormone" shot yesterday. In another week or two, they will stop one Rx pill, and they will drop the last one at the end of the 8 weeks. He can't wait, and neither can his wife or I. Along the way, though, they did find gallstones (easy to deal with) and what he teasingly calls a "chubby" liver. That might require some further talks.

Made coffee for fridge to last through Wednesday.
Tossed some brown-and-wild-rice into slow cooker and will check in 3 hours. Recipe I found online was simple - water 2 to 1 on the rice - cook on high for 3 hours for brown or wild rice, fluff, pack and freeze. Can't wait to see how it works out. I've long been cooking brown rice ahead but in a small pot on the stove. This is so much easier and does not require watching. It will be a happy blessing to have cooked rice in serving sizes to pull out when I need to add to everything from chicken soup to chili  and as sides.

Need to stop now, or at least get off these legs. Will probably do some crochet or plastic canvas crosses or pocket crosses for a while.
Rolling along...
