When I Worry About Worrying

Sometimes we feel guilty about worrying. We think that, as Christians, our Faith should cancel that out. That’s not necessarily true.

Even if you are not Catholic, most of you probably respect and admire Mother Teresa. Well, there is a story about how she worried and even doubted. And I am not Mother Teresa.

The story claims that at times, Mother Teresa, when answers to her prayers were not evident, wondered if God had deserted her. So she worried.

I try not to worry for long. I have a little saying that my sister (now deceased) and I used to say:
“Two or three minutes, that’s a lot, then it’s time to get off of the Pity Pot.”

A little worrying actually allows me to get the problem out where I can see it. Too much worrying blocks me from hearing/seeing the solution if it is already there.

Then it’s time for me to pray for an answer. I also pray that my eyes can see and my ears can hear the answer when God presents it to me.

Father, I know you do not put me down when I worry. Thank you for helping me to resist the urge to worry for long. And thank you for always being there when I need to talk to you.
