Well, this
morning, he made me see something else I’ve been neglecting to do.
I had
scheduled a physical examination over 25 miles away for this morning at 7:30
am. Back when I booked this, I feared I would not have the gas money for the
round trip. I knew they provided 12 free round trips for covered appointments a
year. They were supposed to pick me up at 6:30 am. By 6, I was ready and
sitting at my living room window. I had everything ready so I could just scoot
out the back door and be on my way. At 6:15, he pulled up, fifteen minutes
early. It threw me. I grabbed my bag and went out the front door which was
closer. As I closed the front door, I realized I did not have my keys.
Yep. I got
into the really cool Prius, telling the driver that when I got back this
morning, I’d be facing finding a way to get into the house. I have not ever
locked myself out of this place in the 13/14 years I’ve lived here. Guess there’s
always a first time.
I made up
my mind to forget it until we got where we were going. I pledged to myself to
keep the thoughts and worries at bay until AFTER they took my blood pressure. I
had vowed to myself that I would be very calm and cool at this hour-long visit.
I wanted all my tests to look good to my doctor when the records were sent to
him.
I did good
with the blood pressure. 126/75, which is great for me.
At that
point, any time she left me alone in the exam room, I tried to find a solution
in my mind. I finally decided to just arrive at home and call our mobile home
park’s maintenance man on the cell I carry for emergencies. This seemed to fit
the criteria for my using it.
The rest of
the session went well. Good carotid flow, nerves in ankles working well, lungs
sounded good, and EKG was just great.
Meanwhile,
I realized that it was about time I put an emergency key somewhere outside my
home where I could find it if this ever happened again. I planned to do that as
soon as I got back inside the house.
When we got
back, the maintenance man was, amazingly, two houses away. He came right over.
He decided to start with the front door. He opened the screen door. Then he
called me over. Wonder of wonders, the front door was unlocked!
I had been
so surprised by the early arrival of the driver that I not only forgot to grab
the keys, but I forgot to lock the door behind me.
The good
thing is that I did not stress out over this the whole time. The good thing is
that I made a decision to cover myself for future possibilities. The good thing
is that God knows I am really dense when he just hints at what I should do. He
has to get very specific with me, I’m afraid.
Father, once again, you have got my attention. Thankfully, you know that I am not very good at hearing you when you whisper. Sorry that you had to yell, but at least I did hear you. I will take of it - thanks again.
