My
mechanic guy is the greatest and so patient with me. I had been told by a
friend that I once again had oil in my radiator overflow reservoir tank. I only
looked as far as the oil on her hands, shut the car's hood, and was at the shop
when he opened this morning.
He
took me right to the hood and made me stand there when he opened it. Shoot. The
oil was only on the inside of the reservoir cap and around the threads/ridges
in the hole the cap goes into. There was another small strip of it just above
the coolant. What he pointed out, and what I should have looked at yesterday,
was the fact that the coolant was absolutely pure, clean. Then he pulled the
dipstick, again right in front of me, and showed me the clean oil. If water and
oil had mixed, it would have been milky.
So,
no gasket problems. He reminded me that he had done a diagnostic not long ago
and I had great compression.
Anyhow,
he feels it is just residual oil from that contamination earlier. They cleaned
it again, and he wanted me to run a few errands and bring it back in to see. I
couldn't do that today but I will do it very early tomorrow.
He
said there is one more thing he can check, the intake.
So,
for now, I just have my normal car to-do list for the next few months - the
strut mounts, a fresh radiator before our hot season because of that earlier contamination,
and my rack/pinion work, in that order. They
will be costly enough, but I'll just work on them as quickly as I can, as soon
as I can. The main thing is that the Lord apparently heard your prayers (and
mine) and my newest problem isn't as bad as I was afraid it would be. We may
never know how that oil got into that tank in the first place. It's even possible
that my nephew, who had no sight in his stroked-out right eye, might have
accidentally added it to the wrong place - he definitely knew better, but we're
all subject to odd happenings.
Father,
thank you with all my heart. I pray that tomorrow will bring verification that
all is well now with that part of the car. Bless those who prayed and bless all
in worse need than I am in at this time - and there are many in that category,
I fear.
