De-Stressing Prayers for the Holidays

We have no funds for buying gifts this year, but as usual, I am able to make some simple gifts for most immediate needs - just the girls in our Friday morning Charity Crafter's group (7), the small staff at our senior mobile home community (4), and the folks who deliver and otherwise help with our volunteer-run monthly newsletter (6).

Still, that's 17. Even with the small things I'm doing, quick and easy ideas from websites, trying to do them at the last minute can be stressful. Until the past two days, I wasn't even sure what I would be putting together - I had to browse the internet and find ideas. I put over a hundred ideas on my new Pinterest boards - they are sort of like graphic website bookmarks. They are very easy to browse because they are visual. The old way of bookmarking crafting or other ideas was not very helpful when in a rush.

Anyhow, between doing that and making some special crocheted slippers for a neighbor who ordered them for a friend, I found myself rather uptight this morning.

Thank heaven for faith; thank heaven for the ability to pray. I'll share some faves of mine...

There are two quick prayers I often say when my mind gets out of sorts -
One is: Heavenly Father up above, fill my heart with peace and love.
The other: Clear my mind of useless thoughts; guide my thoughts and words this day.

Between the two of them, which I usually say three times in a row, I find myself calming down. I am able to focus more easily and figure out my priorities instead of rushing about in confusion.

Oh, and there's another for extremely bad, bad days - it's in my Busy Person's Prayer Book -

When Things Go Wrong
Father, it seems that things are going wrong
And my world is falling apart,
Please hold me in your loving arms
And send your peace into my heart.

Yep, I have to admit that I turn to prayer when stress threatens to take over my day, my hour or my minutes.

Dear Lord, thank you for being there for each of us, at any moment of any day. Thank you for hearing our prayers and calming the storms of the complicated lives we lead in today's world.
