They agreed to machine the engine, at first, for $500 and waive labor, because we were "good customers." However, they found that there were other internal engine problems and said we were better off with a replacement used engine, for about $1000. This cost would be added to our balance.
Today, they said the replacement engine is in. It only has 77,000 miles on it and our old one had 133,000 on it. However, the "boss" says he will not waive labor and the current cost will be $1595, added to our balance.
We have no choice. We have no funds to pay a different mechanic to either machine or replace the engine. We have no funds to just let them repo this car and go get another. We must accept this.
However, I am seriously dreading the future. When Frank lost his job at the end of February, we had to wait two full months, living on just my SSA, while he appealed the first decision and finally was awarded his unemployment. During that time, we received help from many sources.
When the unemployment began coming in, I very carefully and steadily began paying down anything but fixed bills - this included two small personal bills, two short-term loans, and two months in arrears in all our utilities.
I was just beginning, about two weeks ago, to feel good about where we are at, at this point.
Now, we are back at square one - I was looking forward to finally getting rid of the almost-$300 car payment in about 8 more months - now it will be at least another year and a half.
Yes, we will have our car back this week. Yes, we do not have to put any funds out of our pocket at this point. Yes, we will have a slightly newer engine. But it is still difficult to deal with.
Father in heaven, please fill me with all the grace I need to continue feeling blessed by this instead of feeling scared to death about being able to pay this off.
