It makes sense, when you think about it. The wrists and palms are kept warm in the cold weather but the fingers are free to touch the keys or the screen. How cool is that? I've got a few in my Etsy shop, but I plan to keep adding more and more colors and sizes before the winter hits and in time for the Christmas holidays. I plan to have a big variety of fur-trimmed choices as well.
My first experience with these was back in the Second World War - Yes, I am that old.
My mother used to make these in the 40s and they would go with others in big batches to the troops all over the world. They allowed the men to access their artillery and weapon controls while still keeping most of the hand and wrist warm in the most chilling of climates.
It's interesting how these have always found a use over the passing years.
They are often used as "arthritis gloves." I have folks who have ordered them for their children in school because the girls loved to put them on after swim meets, to warm their chilled wrists. Of course, they are always useful for our troops in cold weather. In my case, our Friday morning charity crafters make them by the dozens to give to the homeless each winter. And now, they are in demand for texting.
I suppose I'll be always making these for one reason or another. But that's okay, because they are quick to make, and fun to work up as well.
