Fall Charity Crafting

Although many U.S. cities are still suffering from one of the hottest summers they can remember, Fall will come quickly and the homeless will be feeling the chill.

Our senior mobile home community's crafters (all 5 of us) have already begun making scarves, fingerless gloves, and caps, to build up our stash for when the nights begin to deliver our bone-chilling desert cold and winds.

In case you don't remember, or are new to this blog, I'm posting a pair of links.

One is to a simple scarf for the homeless. It is a good way to use up small amounts of yarn, too. This pattern makes a loosely crocheted scarf that is long enough to toss over the head and ears, or wrap around the neck at least one time.

The other link is a tip for keeping track of how many rows you have done on the scarf. Because the pattern is so simple, the rows can feel like it's taking forever and I hated counting them over and over to see how far I had come.

I hope you find these useful. I have already made 3 scarves in the past two weeks. One is a combo of brown and rust; another is brown and hunter green; and the other is all different shades of reds and rusts and even a smidgeon of orange (in varying size stripes, depending on how much scrap yarn I had of each).

This pattern is great for quick and easy holiday gifts, too - for these, you'd probably add some fringe or a scalloped edge at top and bottom.

Enjoy.
