The Versatile 12" Square

I love 12" squares. On Crochet Pattern Central, they have tons of them. Other sites also have a wide variety of this size square. One of my favorite squares is a simple granny, but either in a color family (shades of blue, or several earth tones, etc.) or two or more colors (turquoise and black; tan, black, white; etc.). It's amazing how lovely these can look.

When joined, these make a quick and easy afghan. Size is simple to calculate because 4x5 would be 48"x 60", for example. Because of their size, there is a minimum of joining required - that cheers me a lot!

They are also a good size for throw pillows. One on each side of a 12" pillow form, with or without a gusset, is a very easy project to work up.

This is also a good size to join, using a rather solid pattern, into a tote or purse.

Yep, I really love 12" squares!
