After some thought tonight, and some prayer, it dawned on me that, of course, there is a reason for everything.
The fact that the little jug of water that he carries from home, half filled with frozen water to last him the 12 hrs in our desert heat (currently 109 highs), burst in the duffle bag most of them carry with all their paper work and when they think of it, something to eat when they do not have time to stop and get some fast food takeout. It drenched all his paperwork from the beginning of his shift, something he needs at the end of the shift, plus it "drowned" his cell phone.
The cell phone is essential, too. The drivers pass info to each other during the shift ("such-and-such a hotel has a big checkout today, lots of rides to the airport," "don't bother stopping at xxx casino, it's dead today," etc.), plus they pass cards to customers. If a customer goes a good distance to a golf course, it's great if he can call the driver for the return trip, usually a good fare. Anyhow, you get the idea. Murphy's Law in high gear these two days, without wasting time giving you all the details.
So, I figure maybe one of the calls he might have received today might have had him on a road that might have meant real trouble for him; possibly he was saved from a danger we know nothing about at this point.
In addition, all the things that happened to him, this past 48 hours, ended up affecting me and my own little routine and schedule along the way. Little nuisances snowballed.
Dear Lord, thank you for guiding us in the way you know we needed to go. Thank you, too, for the patience we needed to get through the maze and over the bumps.
